The 1881 Movement run fundraiser for Kenny Jackett banner

Watford fan group The 1881 Movement are running a fundraiser to create a giant banner commemorating club legend Kenny Jackett.

Jackett, who died aged 64 last month, sits eighth on the list of all-time appearance-makers with 428 games for the Hornets, the only club he ever played for.

He also went on to manage the club and then form part of Graham Taylor's coaching staff as they achieved back-to-back promotions in the late 1990s – and the opportunity to honour him at Vicarage Road is now open to supporters.

Known for their various demonstrations over the years, The 1881 Movement want their next one to remember Jackett, with £5,900 required to buy a 45m x 35m giant surfer banner that would cover the Rookery End.

The idea has the blessing of Jackett's family, with his wife Samantha telling The Watford Observer : "We're extremely honoured as we know how expensive these things are.

"It is an unbelievable gesture from the Watford fans, who Kenny loved."

The group, run by Roy Moore, want to mark Jackett's "extraordinary service to the club".

They said: "The 1881 supporters group is proud to launch this fundraiser to honour one of the greatest figures in Watford Football Club’s history – Kenny Jackett.

"Kenny’s story is Watford through and through. Joining the club as a schoolboy at the age of 12, he went on to spend his entire playing career wearing the yellow shirt.

"When injury forced his playing career to end far too early, Kenny’s commitment to Watford never wavered.

"Whether you can donate £2, £5, £10, £20 or more, every contribution brings us closer to our goal.

"If you can't donate, sharing this page with fellow Hornets supporters would be just as valuable.

"This is a fan-led tribute, created with the blessing of Kenny Jackett’s family and driven by the passion of the Watford family.

"Together, we can give one of our greatest-ever servants the tribute he truly deserves. One Club. One Legend. One Last Thank You."
